The Board
of Trustees of the Society recognizes that many of its Corporate Members
have made significant, but largely unrecognized, improvements in the stewardship
of our environment. In 1997, the Corporate Environmental Achievement Award
(CEAA) was established where outstanding environmental achievements made
by Corporate Members in the field of ceramics would be recognized by the
annual presentation of the award.
These achievements would represent either:
- a significant improvement of an existing process and/or product,
or
- the development and implementation of a new process and/or product
In both cases the process and/or product would demonstrate improvements
in one or more of the following areas:
- reduction in undesirable effluent streams
- expanded recycling of materials
- measurable environmental benefits over previously established processes
The award winners will be selected by a sub-committee made up from members
of the Committee on Ceramic Environmental Stewardship. A maximum of two
awards may be made each year. Nominations can be submitted by any member
of the Society. It is not necessary for the process and/or product to be
developed solely by one company and joint nominations can be submitted.
Any member can submit a nomination on behalf of a Corporate Member company.
The Nominating Process
Any member can submit a nomination
on behalf of an organization, whom must be a current corporate member
or join as a corporate member in order to qualify for the award.
Nominations should consist of a concise description of the achievement
(500 words maximum) outlining its significance in terms of a description
of the achievement and its impact on the environment. Appropriate
back-up documents which would further aid in the evaluation are also
requested. It is strongly recommended that these back up documents
be closely coordinated with the summary description. Nominations
will be evaluated and the winners selected and forwarded to the Board
of Trustees for approval. Those nominations not selected for an award
will remain eligible for consideration over the next two years. Joint
nominations where two or more companies have combined resources to
develop a process and/or product, can be submitted. In this case
it is recommended that a representative from one company be selected
to coordinate the effort and act as a spokesperson. To better understand
what is expected, read the evaluation
process instructions given to subcommittee members as a basis
for judging the nominations.
